Exactly one century ago, in the year 1909 the first film ever recorded in Croatia was filmed in Rijeka! A film forever lost!
There is a theory that a film pioneer from Trieste called Salvatore Spina, who was making and showing movies all over Austria-Hungary, filmed the movie.
The only reliable information is about the events that took place before the lost movie reconstruction: A few months before the premiere of the movie, two young Russians attacked the National bank in Rijeka, the subsidiary on the Dante square, killing the manager of the subsidiary and stealing around 50.000 kruna.
Said events are a solid framework for this short movie adventure, a reconstruction that wants to stay true to the filmmaking technique of that time as a fantasy of the past in this lost film was made. This means the usage of b/w technique, static camera positioning without close-ups, titles, an improvised piano soundtrack…
